Call for Submissions opens for 2024 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the Canada Council for the Arts invite architects to submit projects for the 2024 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.

Presented every two years, up to 12 medals are awarded to celebrate outstanding design in recently completed built projects – big or small – by Canadian architects. The 2024 program, updated this season to reflect the critical values of both organizations, continues a tradition initiated by the Massey Medals in 1950. It provides an important source of understanding of the nature of Canadian architecture and the regional, cultural and historic forces expressed in the built environment.

To learn more about the Terms of Reference, review updated eligibility and submission requirements, and see past recipients, please visit the Governor General’s Medals in Architecture page on the RAIC website.

The deadline to submit a project for consideration is December 7, 2023, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Applicants must submit their work through the online RAIC awards platform.

To learn more about the Terms of Reference, review updated eligibility and submission requirements, and see past recipients, please visit the Governor General’s Medals in Architecture page on the RAIC website.

Applicants are solely responsible for timely submissions. The listed date and time for submissions is firm without exceptions.

We are committed to equity and justice as well as inclusion across race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability and age and encourage anyone interested in the Honours and Awards program to submit.

About the Governor General’s Medals in Architecture

The Governor General’s Medals in Architecture, created by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, contribute to the development of the discipline and practice of architecture and increase public awareness of architecture as a vital cultural force in Canadian society.

The objective is to recognize and celebrate outstanding design in recently completed built projects by Canadian architects.

The RAIC is proud to organize and administer the program and Canada Council for the Arts selects and administers the peer assessment committee.
