As reported in the Calgary Sun, one man is facing charges after Calgary police recovered more than $70,000 of stolen construction tools from a northeast home.

Police say one of the thefts happened Oct. 6, 2018, when unknown offenders broke into a contracting business located in the 4400 block of 58th Avenue S.E. by forced entry and stole approximately $8,500 worth of construction tools.

On May 8, an employee of the business found tools listed for sale in an online ad. Believing those to be his, the employee contacted the seller and arranged to meet at a home located in the 6100 block of Madigan Drive N.E.

While in the process of buying back his property, the employee noticed a large amount of other construction tools in the home, including other items stolen from his business, according to police. After contacting authorities, officers from the Online Stolen Property Unit began investigating.

Investigators conducted a search warrant at the home on May 14 and found about $70,000 worth of construction tools. Police also seized a small amount of methamphetamine.

Calgary police charged Nicholas Robert Burrows, 32, of Calgary, with three counts of break and enter, two counts of breaching a probation order and one count each of trafficking stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

He was also charged with one outstanding warrant.
