Residents of Burnaby are closer to enhanced healthcare services as Fraser Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority have chosen the preferred team for Phase 2 of the Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project. The alliance includes PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. and Parkin Architects Western Ltd., who will collaborate on the Keith and Betty Beedie Acute Care Tower. This phase features 160 private rooms, a new medical imaging department, and the BC Cancer – Burnaby McCarthy Centre. Phase 2 construction starts in late 2025, aiming for completion in 2030, at a cost of $1.7 billion, funded by the Province, Burnaby Hospital Foundation, and BC Cancer Foundation.
Minister of Health, Adrian Dix, emphasized the goal of providing modern acute-care services locally. Dr. Victoria Lee, CEO of Fraser Health, highlighted the project’s focus on enhancing patient care. Kristy James, CEO of Burnaby Hospital Foundation, expressed pride in supporting the hospital’s transformation.
Phase 1, led by EllisDon, includes a new healthcare pavilion and upgrades to the Jim Pattison Surgery Centre, with completion expected in 2025. As Burnaby’s population grows, the hospital aims to meet increasing healthcare demands.
