Bird Construction Secures $575M in New Projects

Bird Construction Inc. announces its selection for five major projects, with a combined value exceeding $575 million. These projects span various sectors, including industrial, nuclear, and healthcare, reinforcing Bird’s strategic growth and diversification.

One of the notable awards includes a civil and concrete package for Dow’s Path2Zero Project in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Dow Chemical’s $6.5 billion USD investment in the world’s first net-zero petrochemical project will involve a significant brownfield expansion and retrofitting of existing facilities. Bird’s role in this groundbreaking initiative underscores its expertise in large-scale industrial projects, contributing to a sustainable future.

In addition, the 2NationsBird joint venture has been selected for foundational and underground utility work at SaskPower’s Aspen Power Station Project in Saskatchewan. This 370-megawatt power station will support renewable energy generation, ensuring reliable power for the region. Bird’s involvement in this project highlights its commitment to supporting Canada’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Bird’s Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) team has also secured a 5-year Master Service Agreement (MSA) with a long-term client, aligning with Bird’s strategy of expanding its portfolio within target industries. This award reflects Bird’s full-service, self-perform general contracting capabilities and its focus on growing within core geographies.

Furthermore, Bird’s expertise in the nuclear sector is showcased through the second-year task order awarded under the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) Master Construction Contract by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. This award follows the successful completion of the first year and demonstrates Bird’s ability to lead environmental remediation projects in the nuclear industry.

Finally, Bird’s BC Buildings team has been chosen for a long-term care project in British Columbia, addressing the increasing demand for long-term care services across the province. This project further solidifies Bird’s presence in the healthcare sector.

“We are excited to continue growing our diverse portfolio with projects across multiple sectors,” said Teri McKibbon, President and CEO of Bird Construction. “Our proven track record in delivering early works on major industrial projects positions us to pursue full project life cycle opportunities. With strong demand in our target sectors, we remain focused on disciplined project selection and delivering exceptional performance through 2024 and beyond.”

Bird Construction’s recent project wins highlight its robust capabilities and strategic focus on diversification, setting the stage for continued success and value creation for shareholders.
