Bird Construction Inc. announces changes to executive team

TORONTOJune 4, 2019 /CNW/ – Bird Construction Inc. announced today that effective June 30, 2019, Mr. Ian Boyd will step down as President & Chief Executive Officer and will take up the position of Executive Vice President – Major Projects.  In this new role Mr. Boyd will provide senior executive leadership of the Company’s major projects including securement, staffing, execution and profitability.

Mr. Terrance McKibbon, currently Chief Operating Officer of the Company will be appointed President & Chief Executive Officer.  Mr. McKibbon will provide overall executive leadership of the Company’s business, strategic development and profitability including direct responsibility for the Company’s district operations and all corporate functions.

Mr. McKibbon joined Bird Construction in June 2017 as Chief Operating Officer, having over 30 years of experience in the construction industry including serving as Chief Executive Officer of a large publicly traded construction company.

Mr. Boyd joined Bird Construction in 2008 and was appointed as President & Chief Executive Officer in 2015 after a 20-year career in operations, primarily in project management, including numerous large-scale design build and PPP projects.

Commenting on the changes in roles, Mr. Paul Charette, Chairman of the Board, said, “Bird Construction is fortunate to have two very experienced and capable senior executives, with complementary but different areas of expertise. As we continue along the path of the diversification strategy that we embarked on in 2016 we have determined that a realignment of the responsibilities of these two individuals will better support the continued execution of that strategy.”

“Our work program has become much more diversified – in services, sectors and client base – and as this has evolved so have the needs of the business from a leadership perspective.  Given his experience and skillset, Teri McKibbon is well suited to assume overall leadership of a more diversified business with a focus on increasing margins and growth. At the same time, large complex projects have become an increasingly important component of our strategy. These major projects, whose size and complexity are only growing, require management capabilities and dedicated executive oversight beyond that which is typical of most projects. This is Ian Boyd’s area of greatest strength and passion.”

Mr. Boyd added, “After leading the Company and guiding it through a period of significant transition since 2015, it is time for new leadership to drive the Company forward.  Teri was an important addition when I recruited him 2 years ago and he is now ready to take the helm.  I look forward to continuing to support Bird’s diversification strategy in my new role, focusing on what I am most passionate about – major projects.”
