The City of Beaconsfield has officially awarded the $28.6 million contract for the construction of the future Beaconsfield Cultural Centre, marking a major milestone in a community-driven project more than seven years in the making. Announced by Mayor Martin St-Jean and Municipal Council, construction will begin this spring at the marina site adjacent to Centennial Park—one of the city’s most recognized and valued public spaces.

Designed as a universally accessible facility, the Beaconsfield Cultural Centre will serve as a dynamic cultural and community hub. The project includes a versatile multipurpose hall for performances, conferences, community programming, and private events. At its core will be a modern library intended to function as the heart of the Centre, complemented by creation studios, study rooms, and flexible exhibition spaces designed to accommodate diverse cultural programming.

The Centre will also feature Beaconsfield’s first lakeside café-bistro, complete with an outdoor terrace overlooking the park. Collaborative workspaces will be made available to local associations, while outdoor elements will be thoughtfully integrated into Centennial Park to ensure seamless connectivity between indoor and outdoor public spaces.

Mayor Martin St-Jean described the contract award as the culmination of years of consultation, planning, and community engagement. The need for a cultural centre was first identified in 2015. In 2019, the City launched an extensive public consultation process and hosted collaborative workshops to define residents’ priorities for the revitalization of Centennial Park and the marina area.

An architectural competition followed, attracting submissions from 32 firms. Four finalists were selected and evaluated by a jury that included renowned architects. The winning design was recognized for its harmonious integration into the park setting and its strong alignment with community aspirations. The project has since received an international architectural design award, further validating its innovative approach.

From a financial perspective, the project reflects strategic municipal planning and diversified funding. Of the total $28.6 million project cost—including contingencies and financing—$16.9 million will be supported through government grants, dedicated funds, and private contributions. The City’s net investment is estimated at $11.7 million. According to Mayor St-Jean, this funding model demonstrates prudent fiscal management, allowing the City to deliver a high-value public asset while limiting the impact on taxpayers.

Following a public call for bids, twelve competitive proposals were submitted by construction firms. After a comprehensive evaluation process, Municipal Council awarded the contract to the lowest conforming bidder.

Construction is scheduled to continue through summer 2028. Throughout the development phase, the City has committed to maintaining transparent communication with residents and stakeholders.

Once complete, the Beaconsfield Cultural Centre is expected to stand as a symbol of civic collaboration, sustainable planning, and long-term community investment—reinforcing the city’s vision for a modern, inclusive, and culturally vibrant future.
