Habitat for Humanity GTA, in partnership with the Government of Ontario and the City of Toronto, has celebrated a major construction milestone at 355 Coxwell Avenue while officially opening applications for its Toronto attainable homeownership program.
The project’s topping-off ceremony marks the completion of the six-storey building’s structural frame, bringing the development one step closer to delivering 33 attainable homes for Toronto families. Construction is expected to be completed in Q2 2027.
Beyond the construction milestone, the opening of applications represents an important step for individuals and families seeking an affordable path into Toronto’s competitive housing market.
According to Habitat for Humanity GTA CEO Ene Underwood, the milestone symbolizes more than progress on a building—it marks the beginning of future homeowners’ journeys toward owning a home.
Announced in October 2025, the development is the first flagship project under the Ontario-Toronto New Deal, which promotes the construction of below-market modular homes.
The project demonstrates how modular construction, public investment, and cross-sector collaboration can accelerate housing delivery while improving access to attainable homeownership.
Funding includes:
The program is designed to support households earning up to Toronto’s 70th income percentile.
Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack said the project will help more families achieve homeownership by creating new opportunities in today’s challenging housing market.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow highlighted the importance of partnerships that maximize public land, embrace innovative construction methods, and expand access to affordable housing for residents.
Eligible homebuyers can now begin the application process for one of the 33 attainable condominium units.
Prospective homeowners are encouraged to review eligibility requirements, submit their applications, and prepare for occupancy when the building is completed in Q2 2027.
The 355 Coxwell Avenue development showcases how modular construction, government investment, and community partnerships can address housing affordability while creating sustainable homeownership opportunities. As construction advances, the project stands as a model for delivering innovative housing solutions that help more Toronto residents achieve the dream of homeownership.
