The Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) has recognized six companies and two safety professionals with the 2026 ACSA Safety Excellence Awards, celebrating leadership, worker involvement, risk mitigation, learning and continuous improvement across Alberta’s construction industry. The recipients were announced during the ACSA Awards Dinner in Edmonton after being selected from 31 qualified company nominees and three safety professionals.
The company awards recognize Alberta employers of different sizes that demonstrate a commitment to integrating safety into daily operations and sustaining strong safety performance. Several categories are connected to ACSA’s Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR)™ and Certificate of Recognition (COR)™ programs.
The 2026 company award recipients are:
ACSA said qualified submissions were evaluated against established award criteria, with qualification itself not guaranteeing an award.
The 2026 awards also recognized two individuals for their contributions to workplace safety and their professional development within Alberta’s construction industry.
Rebecca Gill was named National Health and Safety Administrator (NHSA) of the Year, while Olusegun Odetundun received the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) of the Year award.
The individual awards recognize safety professionals who have developed their construction careers through project and initiative management while participating in activities intended to strengthen workplace health and safety.
ACSA CEO Mark Hoosein said the awards recognize companies and individuals that make safety part of how they lead and operate, helping protect workers, strengthen businesses and establish standards for their industry peers.
The awards presentation also included the inaugural Dave Hagen Construction Safety Scholarship, awarded to Grace Godin, a student in the Occupational Health and Safety diploma program.
ACSA partnered with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) to establish the $1,000 scholarship in honour of former ACSA Board Director Dave Hagen. The scholarship supports students pursuing careers in health and safety and is awarded based on academic achievement.
The addition of the scholarship extends ACSA’s safety recognition beyond current employers and professionals by supporting the development of the next generation of occupational health and safety practitioners.
The ACSA Safety Excellence Awards are presented during the first evening of the association’s two-day conference and recognize companies and professionals that incorporate safety into how they plan, lead, monitor performance and learn from their operations.
Nominations for the 2027 ACSA Safety Excellence Awards are scheduled to open in March 2027, providing another opportunity for Alberta construction companies and safety professionals to showcase their workplace safety initiatives and achievements.
