The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Ontario (ACEC-Ontario) proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, marking five decades of driving innovation, advocating for fair business practices, and shaping Ontario’s infrastructure. Since its founding in 1975, ACEC-Ontario has played a pivotal role in advancing municipal and provincial projects, influencing legislation, and promoting excellence in consulting engineering.

Over the years, ACEC-Ontario’s key achievements include forming partnerships with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Technology, establishing agreements for Professional Consulting Services with the Municipal Engineers Association, and highlighting the role of consulting engineers in public safety during the Walkerton Inquiry. The association has also been instrumental in advocating for qualifications-based consultant selection systems with organizations such as Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation.

A cornerstone of ACEC-Ontario’s contributions is its commitment to professional development and recognition of excellence. The Ontario Engineering Project Awards (OEPA), celebrated for nearly 25 years, honor outstanding engineering projects. Additionally, the launch of EngineeringCPD.ca supports continuous professional development, enabling engineers to meet their PEO PEAK requirements.

Collaboration remains central to ACEC-Ontario’s success. Joint liaison committees have been established with key stakeholders, including municipalities, Metrolinx, and the Ministry of Transportation, fostering stronger partnerships and more effective project outcomes.

As ACEC-Ontario looks ahead, Chair Mark Tulloch emphasizes the association’s dedication to driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and building a resilient future for Ontario’s communities. With a legacy of impactful advocacy and a commitment to advancing engineering excellence, ACEC-Ontario continues to be a driving force in the province’s infrastructure development and engineering standards.
