Starting June 3, over 211,000 workers in Quebec’s construction industry will vote for their preferred union, a process occurring every four years and ending June 22. Workers need only vote if they wish to change allegiance; otherwise, their current membership is automatically renewed. Five major unions are recognized: FTQ-Construction, Conseil provincial, SQC, CSD-Construction, and CSN-Construction. This election influences collective bargaining power. The inter-union raiding period, which began May 1, precedes the vote. Results take effect in September, and the CCQ ensures a smooth process.
