Formerly known as Villiers Island, Ookwemin Minising is a new island, born from one of the world’s most ambitious flood protection and river restoration projects. In January 2025, the Federal and Provincial governments and the City of Toronto jointly invested nearly 1 billion dollars to accelerate new housing and plan for more destinations and more ways to move around the harbour. What does this mean for the island? We can start work to build new homes and destinations.
