Massive Concrete Pour for Vancouver’s New Hospital

In December 2024, EllisDon successfully completed the first raft slab pour for the new Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre – a critical foundation milestone. This 11-hour operation involved pouring 3,898 cubic metres of concrete with 410 trucks and 6 pumps, reinforced by 12 layers of steel. Executing a task of this scale required meticulous planning and collaboration across the EllisDon teams – Construction Sciences, Ground Engineering, Logistics, and Forming Ltd. They also implemented a thermal control plan to manage the curing temperature, preventing cracking and ensuring the slab’s structural integrity.
