Engineered Wood vs Standard Dimensional Lumber

Casey Grey answers another question from a viewer. Steven B. asks about framing with your typical 2×6 studs and he is wondering if you can use engineered wood.

“What about framing with LVL or LSL studs instead of typical SPF studs? Dead straight and flat walls should make the job of the drywallers, bathroom tilers, kitchen cabinet makers & installers, etc. easier and faster since they are not fighting against uneven/twisted walls to get a high level of finish quality? The tradeoff seems to be a tougher job for the framers, higher framing cost, and more concern about rot if the engineered studs get wet during construction.”
