Construction sites are no walk in the park. On-site accidents and potential liability lurk around every corner. And given the amount of hazards, heavy-duty machinery, power tools and people in play, building sites can be a nightmare waiting to happen.
Sadly, we are all too familiar with the scary stats. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, around 20% of all workplace fatalities in the US are connected to construction. This is not only devastating to families and co-workers, but results in a huge financial bodyblow to construction firms. In 2021 alone work injuries and deaths cost firms operating in the US a whopping $167 billion in insurance claims, personal injury payments, and indirect costs due to delays.
Every general contractor knows the key to minimizing post-event liability is precise documentation of on-site activities, personnel and equipment. The problem is, old-school manual documentation on construction sites simply does not cut it anymore.
First off, it’s a breeding ground for human error. All those forms, papers and handwritten notes floating around? They’re just begging to get lost, misinterpreted or even wrongly filed. This can lead to some seriously panic-filled days after an incident occurs and the authorities and insurance companies are looking for an accurate paper trail to assess responsibility. But there is hope.
