Premier Doug Ford breaks ground for Nestlé factory expansion in London

Plans for an expansion costing Nestlé Canada $41.3 million are officially underway for the Nestlé ice-cream factory in London, Ont.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford made a stop to break ground at the new construction site on Friday.

“Investing to expand your operations here in London gives this community and the families who call it home, the confidence knowing they have job security and that is absolutely critical and that they can continue to grow and prosper in this region,” Ford said.

The factory will grow by 26,000 square-feet, bringing the factory to a total of 1.3 million square feet following an investment of $51.5 million made in 2018.

According to Nestlé Canada CEO and president John Carmichael, the expansion will create 100 new production-line jobs.

“London has been a special place for over 50 years now,” said Carmichael.

“We’re really proud to be a top employer in this community and to be heavily engaged in the London community. More broadly, that includes working alongside the labour unions, whether it be the Teamsters, whether it be CUPE and Unifor, all local representatives here are really an important part of our team and we’re happy to work alongside them and more.”
