Alberta-based Western Securities has started construction of 146,000 square feet of new office space office in Calgary as part of the redevelopment of the Stadium Shopping Centre site.
Known as Uxborough, and designed by Gibbs Gage Architects, the redeveloped complex will feature a medical office building, a 203-unit apartment tower, retail and a 189-room hotel, built around a central plaza area.
Uxborough tenants should benefit from its proximity to the new Calgary Cancer Centre and the existing Foothills Hospital and the University of Calgary.
The former shopping centre buildings have been demolished to make way for the start of the first phase of Uxborough, where PCL Construction is building an underground parkade to provide 460 parking stalls for both the office building and apartment block.
The office tower, featuring a raised open pedestrian walkway to the cancer and hospital complex, will be available for medical related services above a 10,000-square-foot daycare.
The $400-million project will require approximately 200 construction workers on site, plus the employees of 25 firms of consultants. It is expected to generate around $5 million in taxes upon completion.
