Charges won’t be laid in fatal excavator-pedestrian collision in Regina

Charges won’t be laid in a November collision between a excavator and a pedestrian that left a 21-year-old woman dead.

In a Tuesday news release, the Regina Police Service said it consulted with the Crown in the course of the investigation, which began the morning of Nov. 4 when the young woman was killed.

“After consultation with the Crown, investigators have concluded that the collision was not the result of a criminal or unlawful act,” the release stated. “Investigators have met with the victim’s family in order to answer questions and explain the processes in the investigation that led to this conclusion. The Regina Police Service joins our community in offering condolences to the family of the victim. This police investigation is now concluded.”

Police have not released the name of the woman killed.

Police were dispatched to the 4500 block of Albert Street at 7:43 a.m., within two minutes of the woman being struck. Police were informed the pedestrian was hit in the curb lane on the west side of the block in question.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Police were able to locate the driver of the vehicle a short time later and determined the excavator was owned by the City of Regina and was being operated by a city employee.
