Liard First Nation and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) have completed the new Elders Housing Complex in Watson Lake, Yukon, a nine-unit facility addressing the housing needs of Liard First Nation Elders. The $9 million project, with an additional $810,000 from Yukon Housing Corporation, reflects a strong partnership between federal, territorial, and First Nations governments. This modern facility provides safe, independent living spaces for Elders, featuring private kitchens and amenities, alongside a shared communal area to foster social interaction. Elders, as Knowledge Keepers, play a vital role in preserving cultural identity and community cohesion, and this complex enables them to continue sharing their wisdom. The project highlights ongoing collaboration on housing initiatives to support Liard First Nation, including previous developments like tiny homes and modular housing.
