B.C. Construction Leaders Propose ‘Minister of Construction’ to Boost Industry Support

With two months until the B.C. election, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) and the BC Construction Association (BCCA) are urging political parties to establish a new provincial cabinet role: Minister of Construction. This role would advocate for B.C.’s $27 billion construction industry, which significantly impacts the province’s GDP and communities. The associations argue that a dedicated minister could streamline processes, address skilled labor shortages, and introduce legislation like Prompt Payment to benefit the sector. They emphasize the importance of construction to B.C.’s future and call on all parties to consider this proposal for more focused governmental oversight.
