The Site C hydro-electric dam, a $16 billion project in the Peace River Valley, is nearing completion after nearly a decade of construction. Originally estimated at $6.6 billion, the dam’s cost escalated due to delays and reviews, including one by the BC Utilities Commission in 2017. Despite legal challenges, the project proceeded and is now 87% complete, with reservoir filling beginning this month and the first of six generating stations expected to be operational by December 2024. The dam will add 1,100 megawatts to B.C.’s power generation, crucial for meeting increasing electricity demands under the CleanBC plan.
