The Prince Edward Island government has revised the Planning Act, now requiring new rural subdivisions with more than 20 lots to dedicate 10% of land as open green space, up from the previous five-lot threshold. This change is welcomed by the construction industry, as it encourages higher-density builds and reduces costs. Randy Mitchell of Anchored Construction and Sam Sanderson of the Construction Association of P.E.I. praise the move for promoting development and addressing the housing crisis, while also stressing the importance of balancing growth with preserving farmland and green spaces.
