Students take a place at the podium at Green Building Fesitival

Supporting the Climate Strike movement with an effort to bring younger and new voices to the table, Sustainable Buildings Canada (SBC) has created new opportunities to showcase emerging green building leaders at the 14th Green Building Festival.

RYERSON STUDENTS ON THE MAIN STAGE

On the main Festival stage, two pairs of Ryerson architectural and building science graduates will present research projects that connect science with design. Dima Ahmad and Jessica Feng present their project ‘Arbour ‘ and Stephen Jones and Alexander Moroz present their project ‘Getaway Cabin’. Posters and models will be displayed on site to support the young graduates’ work.

STUDENT ACADEMIC POSTER COMPETITION

For the first time, the Green Building Festival’s Academic Poster Competition offers students from accredited graduate programs at Ontario colleges and universities the opportunity to enter posters which describe research projects that take a simple or a complex approach or perspective to addressing sustainability in the built or urban environment. Five winning posters have been selected by an expert team to display their posters at the Festival and students who submitted the winning posters will be on hand to answer questions during the Festival’s networking reception.

SBC BURSARY AWARDEES PROFILED

Annual SBC Bursary Awardees receive financial support from Sustainable Buildings Canada in the pursuit of their educational goals at Canadian post-secondary education institutions. 2019 recipients Priyanka Pai (Energy Management, Algonquin College), Kyle MacGowan (Architectural Technology, George Brown College) and Jean-Francois Brodeur (Natural Building Intensive, Endeavour Sustainable Building School) will be introduced to the audience and their work profiled in poster format at the Festival.

The students join hundreds of professionals working in the sustainable building sector, and ten expert presenters, on October 8th at the Toronto Marriott Downtown hotel, for an action-packed day of education about solutions to net-zero, climate resilient buildings and cities.
