New N.L. divided highway will be a P3 project, and NAPE crews won’t be welcome

The Newfoundland and Labrador government plans to develop a major highway project through a public-private partnership (P3), sparking controversy due to the exclusion of unionized government road crews. NAPE union leaders have expressed strong opposition to this decision. The P3 approach, previously successful in other sectors, will involve private entities in the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of new road sections. The project aims for efficient use of funds without tolls for users, but raises concerns about job security and the government’s reliance on private partnerships.
