The sustainable initiative that Cowbell Brewing Co. has nurtured since its launch has earned a major award. The Blyth-based brewery is the 2018 recipient of the Sustainability Forestry Initiative Sponsorship Award.
The prestigious award comes from the Wood Design and Building Awards, the only program to recognize excellence in architecture in which wood plays a significant role.
“We are grateful to our community, Allan Avis Architects, H. Bye Construction, PineRidge Timberframe and Watson’s Home Hardware for their help in raising our ‘grand old barn’ in Blyth.”
The sustainability Forestry Initiative Sponsored Award is given to projects that have used wood and have also met the SFI standards.
The Cowbell Brewing building and property were intentionally designed to recognize the farming heritage in Huron County, said Sparling.
Barns in Huron County were historically built of stone and timber frame.
For Cowbell’s barn, approximately 650 Douglas fir beams were sourced from a sustainably managed forest in British Columbia.
