As Northern Ontario’s newest construction and transportation training institution, Northern Construction Academy (NCA) offers hands-on training programs in real-world construction environments and is registered as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.
Through the relationships built with the team at Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy, NCA was founded from the need for skilled tradespeople in the mining and construction industries across Northern Ontario.
Malcolm Croskery, COO of Pioneer Construction Inc., states that: “Over the past several years, organizations in the construction, mining and transportation industries are experiencing an increasing gap in the supply of skilled tradespeople required for these industries to keep up with demand.”
Malcolm explains that: “Construction, mining, and transportation are all considered essential services and provide long-term full-time career opportunities to individuals who pursue these career paths. We want to make training for these types of positions available and accessible for all, so we joined forces with the team at Northern Construction Academy.”
Specializing in industrial transportation training, Northern Construction Academy provides heavy equipment and transport truck training for individuals wishing to gain skills required for employment as a heavy equipment operator and/or professional AZ or DZ driver.”
Northern Construction Academy started offering programs including AZ/DZ truck training and heavy equipment operator in March of 2021. The heavy equipment program is eight weeks in length and trains students on the basic operations of bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, graders, loaders and haul trucks.
