Molson appears to have chosen buyer for historic Montreal brewery site

As reported in the Montreal Gazette, Molson Coors Canada appears to have chosen a buyer for the site of its historic brewery complex in Montreal.

Molson is discussing selling the site to Groupe Sélection, a company known for its seniors’ residences that has more recently branched out into what it calls “multigenerational” housing projects.

In an email sent to all employees Wednesday morning, Groupe Sélection president Réal Bouclin wrote that he had learned Molson “preferred” the company’s proposal over several other potential buyers.

“We are very proud to have reached this crucial stage of the process,” Bouclin wrote, “for which we have prepared a solid file that respects the heritage character of this site that is so important to Montrealers.”

“We are just a few weeks away from finalizing this major project,” he added, “which will mark a milestone in the history of the City of Montreal and Groupe Sélection.”

Molson Coors Canada did not return the Montreal Gazette’s request for comment on Wednesday.

The company decided to part ways with the Notre-Dame St. location in 2017.  It officially put it up for sale last October amid plans to move its brewing operations to the South Shore borough of St-Hubert by 2021.
