As reported in The Sudbury Star, a local construction company recently made a generous donation to the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario to help them get through the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Dean Fielding and his son Alex donated $50,000 on behalf of Carman Construction to help the organization get through these unprecedented times. 

When asked why they chose to make this significant contribution, Fielding said the Y is an essential institution in Northern Ontario, as it assists Northerners including those recovering from various health issues. 

“The financial support from Dean and the team at Carman Constructions is tremendous,” said Helen Francis, president and CEO of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, in a release. 

“As a result of COVID-19, we have seen a revenue drop of over 45 per cent with an ongoing need to pay bills to keep out facilities open to support vulnerable populations now and to ensure we can re-open to our members and the community in the future. These dollars will go a long way in covering our occupancy costs at the YMCA Durham Street location in Sudbury for the period that our operations are restricted because of the pandemic.” 

The YMCA has played an important role in building healthy communities for over 160 years. It is anticipated that this role will be increasingly important as the community navigates and recovers from COVID-19. 

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is a charity “dedicated to the growth of all persons in spirit, mind and body with a sense of responsibility to each other and the global community,” the organization said.
