Mitrex 1 - Solar-Cladding-Explosion

Build Sustainably with Mitrex Solar Cladding and Windows

The environmental impact of the construction industry has contributed significantly to global warming – specifically, construction projects emit large amounts of carbon dioxide. To date, buildings and the construction sector contributed to 40% of global emissions and the demand in the building sector is projected to increase by 70% by 2050.

The high carbon content of traditional materials coupled with increased energy demands and high emission construction require novel solutions. To address these growing global concerns, Mitrex has created innovative technologies that harness sunlight to produce clean energy in an effort to bridge the gap between the construction and solar sectors.

Solar energy harvesting has traditionally been expensive, relatively inefficient, and hampered by poor design. Existing building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) have proven to be impractical and economically unfeasible for large-scale adoption due to design limitations and poor aesthetics.

In response to such shortcomings, Mitrex has developed innovative building-integrated solar products that serve a dual purpose – the products retain the original functionality of traditional materials but with the added benefit of clean energy generation and design flexibility. Also, through advanced revenue-sharing business model options, consumers can purchase these materials at prices lower than non-solar building materials on the market.

These products can be integrated into any surface touched by the sun, including buildings, bridges, sidewalks, highways, roofs, windows, and noise barriers, to name a few. Mitrex aims to create an entire sustainable energy ecosystem and become the world’s largest microgrid energy company by offering solar as a service and transitioning towards a zero-emission future.

Mitrex Solar Integrated Products

Mitrex solar cladding provides a greener alternative to traditional materials that emit large amounts of carbon dioxide. In particular, aluminum composite materials (ACM) and precast concrete have a large carbon footprint as both products consume vast amounts of energy for production and transportation.

In contrast to precast concrete panels, Mitrex cladding is lightweight because it is reinforced by an aluminum honeycomb backing which increases the safety and durability of the building façade. The honeycomb structure means that our panels are structurally more robust and resilient than conventional framed panels.

Mitrex solar cladding is comprised of three layers: the customizable facing material, the solar cell, and the aluminum honeycomb backing. The facing layer is engineered to allow light to pass through and reach the photovoltaic layer and features colours that are UV-stable and fade-resistant, thus ensuring that the façade will maintain the same design throughout its lifespan. The panels also have an anti-soiling coating which makes them essentially maintenance-free. Mitrex solar cladding is an energy-efficient solution to existing and new facades and is customizable to satisfy any architectural vision.

Mitrex Solar Glass systems are also designed to replace traditional, non-solar glass in every application by maximizing energy production on otherwise unused surfaces. Suitable for any application, Mitrex Solar Glass offers the best option to incorporate renewable energy into any structure’s windows, railings, skylights, curtainwalls, and more.

These products use advanced transparent or semi-opaque solar technology, allowing for complete customization of transparency, size, and function while maximizing the amount of energy produced. In particular, the integrated glass systems offer thermal resistance, durable, and code-compliant, safety-tested insulated glass units.

Similarly, Mitrex Solar Roof technology can replace traditional solar panels for residential home applications. These products provide single-family homeowners with a means of reducing their carbon footprint while matching the appearance of their asphalt or slate roofing shingle material.

Building-integrated roofing modules are constructed using high-efficiency solar cells with extended lifespans. Furthermore, Mitrex roofing products come in a range of fade-resistant colours and patterns and require no maintenance through anti-soiling coatings that reduce the accumulation of dust and dirt on surfaces. These modules also come in frameless options, which maximize the surface area for power generation and do not require specialized installation.

Green and Sustainable Structures

The widespread adoption of Mitrex building-integrated solar modules can reduce the carbon footprint of cities and address the growing demand and insufficient supply of energy. A typical high-rise building with 100,000 SQFT of BIPV cladding would produce enough energy to power 124 single-family homes or reducing the carbon equivalent of planting 417,000 trees. Imagine the impact of large-scale adoption.

Driven by global goals to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, Mitrex aims to make this a reality by becoming the catalyst that accelerates the adoption of green, energy-generating, human-made structures.
