Each year different technologies change how construction work is done in big and small ways.
In 2020, Procore is tracking these five trends in construction technology.
1) Virtual and Augmented Reality
VR and AR are bringing 3D models into job sites, making virtual walkthroughs possible. Field workers can show a supervisor their exact point of view, no matter where the supervisor is physically.
2) Autonomous Equipment
Drones are mapping job sites, collecting data while keeping human inspectors safe. Automation is being applied in heavy machinery, too, with precision tasks such as road paving and land grading.
3) Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Finding meaningful information hidden in the large volume of data construction companies produce is leading to faster problem solving and more efficient project management.
4) Internet of Things (IoT)
“Smart” sensors are being used to monitor equipment usage and worker locations, offering a nuanced look at a project’s progress.
5) Predictive Analytics
Combing through mountains of data, predictive analytics can identify inefficiencies in workflows, and even suggest alternative solutions.
