Four workers were injured after a partial floor collapse at a 26-storey high-rise construction site across from the Covent Garden Market in downtown London. 

The building is a 266-unit luxury apartment building by York Developments at 131 King St. The injuries happened when a floor collapsed during a concrete pour, officials with the company said. 

“We are thankful that no serious injuries have been reported and we are now in the process of gathering further information,” said York Developments in a statement. “We will be conducting an internal review alongside Ellis Don to ensure compliance with our mandated safety protocols.”

Paramedics and police responded to the building’s rear, near York and Talbot streets, where workers gathered outside after evacuating the building. 

A construction worker at the scene told CBC News the incident happened on the 25th floor.

Crews were pouring concrete when a part of the floor collapsed, said Dennis Schiffers, a district chief with the London Fire Department. 

Three people were treated for minor injuries while a fourth person was being assessed for more serious injuries.

The London Health Sciences Centre was on standby in case a large number of people needed emergency treatment, which turned out not to be the case. 

One worker told CBC News his mind turned immediately to the December 2020 incident at The Nest on Wonderland, when two workers were killed and five others injured when the fourth floor of a construction site collapsed while 40 workers were inside the building.
