2,700-unit development Vancouver

As reported in The Georgia Straight, a massive plan to bring 2,700 residential units to the south Cambie neighbourhood of Marpole is scheduled to receive a public hearing this Thursday (July 20).

Called the Pearson Dogwood lands, the site is bordered by 57th Avenue and 59th Avenue and by Heather Street and Cambie Street.

It’s still early days but according to a June 2017 city staff report, the project would consist of 2046 market-rate condos, 540 affordable-housing units, and 114 supportive-housing units. Residential buildings proposed for the site would number more than 10, the tallest of which could not exceed 28 storeys.

The development would also bring a larger, redeveloped health-care complex to the neighbourhood, replacing aging facilites that stand there today. The new complex would be operated by Vancouver Coastal Health.

According to a July 2017 notice issued by Vancouver Coastal Health, the project would see 113 health-care beds replaced by a six-floor building with space for 150 seniors with complex care needs.

The plans also include commercial spaces, a park and smaller green spaces, an adult daycare, and a therapeutic pool.

Construction would occur in phases and is expected to begin in 2018.
