CarbonStar® – Concrete carbon intensity quantification and verification

Cement and concrete manufacturing contribute significantly to the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. While methods to reduce these emissions from the manufacturing process exist, until now, there has been no consistent methodology to differentiate and document the carbon intensity of cement and concrete. This has made it hard for cities, architects, and developers to voice their preference for the use of lower carbon intensity cement or concrete in their infrastructure projects.

The new CarbonStar® methodology outlined in the new CSA SPE-112:21 Technical Specification effectively addresses these challenges and gives specifiers an option to select material with reduced environmental impact.
