The multi-year MacKimmie Complex Redevelopment Project has ramped up with the closing of the tower. Since planning funding was announced in spring 2016, behind-the-scenes work has been happening to get ready for the redevelopment of the complex. Facilities staff and construction crews are now focused on initial construction activities including abatement inside the tower, selective demolition inside the building, and the removal of the tower’s exterior walls.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of the campus community and visitors on our campus,” says Bart Becker, vice-president, facilities. “Construction will be taking place in a very busy part of campus for several years. We have safety measures in place, but we need the campus community to be aware of the closures and detours.”
